Quality Management Systems ISO 9001:2000
Some businesses succeed, some businesses fail, and some race ahead. The difference is that the successful ones develop a product or service that meets or exceeds their customer's expectations at the right price and the right time.
In order to achieve success, a business needs to address Quality Assurance. The Internationally recognised standard for Quality Assurance within general manufacturing and service organisations is ISO 9001:2000. This standard has been developed over the past 15 years and prior to that was known as BS5750 in the UK. ISO 9001 provides a framework for the development an maintenance of key processes through internal audits and management reviews.
The current standard emphasises the need to identify the key processes within the business and to ensure a systems approach managing the business. Management must also be committed to continual improvement of these processes and the monitoring of customer satisfaction.
ISO 9001:2000 provides a management model emphasising the need for internal communications; the setting, and monitoring of objectives aimed at ensuring that all staff contribute to achieving the highest possible level of customer satisfaction. Including the staff in developing the business has a number of spin-off benefits; better staff moral plus a general feel-good factor associated with being a part of a successful business.
